Crosbyton can boast of beautiful and historical canyons all around. These canyons are just a short drive from town, setting North, South, and East. Our north canyon is referred to as Blanco canyon for the Blanco mountain so named by Coronado. Actually, these canyons are one long and wide canyon that winds to the east n south of town. In our east canyon, stands 5 historical markers noting trails and battles of long ago. The east canyon is also host to Silver Falls Rest Area. This rest area has been here since 1939. It was renovated in 2003 with beautiful limestone from a quarry near Austin. Silver Falls has covered picnic tables, large shade trees, clean public restrooms, White River and actual Silver Falls especially running after spring and fall rains. It's a lovely place to stop for refreshing on a journey, or it makes a fun place to go for a family picnic.
At Silver Falls Rest Area there is an upper and lower portion. There are stairs leading down into a grassy area where the old Silver Falls are and where White River runs through the ravine. It's a good place to walk for a bit and take in some fresh air. According to our local Historical Museum the falls were a “favorite camp site of the Kiowa, Comanche and southern Cheyenne nomadic tribes.” Also the U.S. Cavalry (1871-1874) used this spot as a surveyor's land mark.
